China Kantner Isler on Staying Sober with Yoga and Healthy Eating
When it comes to straight talk, there aren’t many who can match China Isler, daughter of the Jefferson Airplane’s legendary rock ‘n roll singer Grace Slick and guitarist Paul Kantner. China has been a fan and friend of Malibu Beach Recovery Center literally since we opened in 2007.
Fifteen years ago she checked her mom into rehab, and a few days later checked herself in as well. That led to sobriety for both, and 11 years of Alanon, a subject she addresses eloquently at our Family Weekends, sometimes together with her charismatic mom. In 2011 she married the very talented actor/director/producer Seth Isler. She majored in theology at Loyola Marymount and was accepted into an acclaimed masters program in pastoral counseling at Claremont School of Theology.
Recently we asked China to speak at the grand opening of The Brentwood House, our new “By Women For Women” Addiction Treatment Center. To our surprise she spoke not only about the benefits for some women of gender-specific treatment, but the role that yoga and diet played in her own recovery.
