THE 12 STEP PHILOSOPHY AS A GUIDELINE FOR EVERYDAY LIFE

It is our primary objective at Malibu Beach Recovery Center to deeply instill our recovery experience into each one of our clients. We view every client as a new opportunity. Clients that seek our help are agreeing to completely submerge themselves in new opportunities towards mental, physical and spiritual growth. Our experience has shown that no recovering addict can rely on philosophy alone. We believe recovery to be a process.

Recovery from active addiction is a life long venture that cannot be sought out alone. Many of our clients seek our program after several failed attempts at tackling their addiction on their own. We at Malibu Beach Recovery Center provide many tools for a rich, happy and productive life, but one thing that we insist upon is the involvement in anonymous 12 Step programs. We hold great value in our program and all that we have to offer, that said we can only take our clients so far. Once clients complete our program they will still need a consistent regiment for continued healthy success. The 12 Steps are guidelines for everyday living. These guidelines are as follows:

  1. We admitted that we were powerless over our addiction, that our lives had become unmanageable.
  2. We came to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
  3. We made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God, as we understood Him.
  4. We made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.
  5. We admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.
  6. We were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.
  7. We humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.
  8. We made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all.
  9. We made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
  10. We continued to take personal inventory, and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.
  11. We sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God, as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us,
and the power to carry that out.
  12. Having had a spiritual awakening as a result of those steps, we tried to carry this message to addicts and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

At first this can seem like a tall order but the 12 Steps are no cause for discouragement. These measures are to be taken over time, not in one day. Our job is to introduce these principles to our clients and to promptly ease them into a new way of life. Once our clients discharge they are encouraged to continue attending 12 Step meetings. There are thousands of 12 Step meetings easily available in the greater Los Angeles area alone.

While continuing to attend these meetings it is also suggested to find a fellowship or select group of people for continued support. A sponsor or spiritual advisor will help guide you through the 12 Steps. This is all readily available at 12 Step meetings, completely free of charge. The only requirement for membership is the desire to do something about your problem.

This is the necessary road to take when seeking recovery after treatment. We at Malibu Beach Recovery Center are all here to make sure that every individual receives the help that he or she needs. We are always more than willing to answer any questions one may have about plans for their future. Our clients are given continued opportunities to trudge the road to happy destiny and will find themselves in for a journey of mind, body and spirit.
